Here’s the latest on what’s new in Internet Marketing

*** CHANGES IN THE PAST 4-5 WEEKS ***

1. PENGUIN 1.1 UPDATE RELEASED + RECOVERING FROM THE PENGUIN UPDATE

2. GOOGLE PLACES INTEGRATED INTO GOOGLE+, NOW CALLED GOOGLE+ LOCAL

3. GOOGLE WEBMASTER TOOLS REVAMPED

4. BING UPDATES ITSELF WITH DEEPER SOCIAL INTEGRATION
Lessons Learned:

· Google Penguin 1.1 update + Recovering Tips

As predicted in our May 2012 newsletter, Google rolled (did roll) out the new version of its latest algorithm called “Penguin 1.1 update” to further improve the search results & fight spam.

Have you noticed changes in your client site’s rankings since May 25th? If so, perhaps those sites have gotten pecked by new version of Google’s latest algorithm “Penguin 1.1 update”.

Here are the best practices which we recommend (as recommended by Google) to implement to recover if you have been hit by this update and also stay protected from future updates?

We diversify your backlink profile by getting links from different types of websites – This includes regular websites, blog posts, reviews, directories, social bookmarking sites, article syndication, video sharing, press release channels, local directories, coupon sites and even social media profiles.

a) We vary the anchor text – target revolving keywords along with website name, website URL, etc. to avoid over optimization for a single term.

b) We avoid getting links from blog rolls i.e. site-wide links – this also includes footer links with keywords as well.
c) We get you links from various Top Level Domains (TLD) – While we agree that links from .gov, .edu and .org domains are given high importance, Google would also like to see your site getting links from .info, .net, .co and .biz websites.

d) We deep link your internal site pages – Wherever applicable we ensure to get links to your inner pages as well. Linking to just the home page can also get you in trouble according to this update.

e) We don’t use spun or spammy content – either on the website or for article syndication. We make sure that the content is 100% unique. For article syndication, each article is submitted to one site to avoid duplication.

f) We do not involve your site in questionable linking schemes like cross-domain linking, links from low quality sites, links from spun articles, bulk directory submissions and social bookmarking, etc.

g) We avoid excessive on-page optimization by making sure to optimize page titles, meta tags and content as per the quality guidelines.

· Google + Local Page

Here is the much anticipated change by Google which we even predicted in our Monthly Webinar on Google+ Business pages when Google started its Google+ pages.

Google rolled out this change of integrating Google Places into Google+. This means that you now have a completely different Place page for your business which looks similar to your Google+ business page.

For more detail information about Penguin 1.1 & Google + Local page update, please check out our June 2012 newsletter & Don’t forget to watch out our Monthly Webinar (Date will be announced shortly)

Hypotheses:

• As done in the past, we too are expecting Google to roll out more versions of Penguin update in future to improve the search results & fight spam.

• More updates/changes are expected to be released by Google in context to Google + Local Page in terms of features like video, click to call/SMS feature etc.

Stay tuned for more posts and updates from us as Google has promised it will bring in additional changes in near future.
************ UPCOMING SEARCH ENGINE CHANGES NEWS***********

• Recently, Google has been focusing more on Mobile optimization & more updates/changes are expected in context to it. We too will be covering different aspects of Mobile Optimization in our next edition of Newsletter.

• Also, we will cover more on above updates; giving few more “Penguin update” recovery tips & advice along with new features updates/changes done by Google in context to Google + Local Page and much more in our next edition of Newsletter.

Once Again, thank you so much for your support and feedback. We truly value and appreciate you as our customer. We are always interested in hearing what you think, and getting your feedback and input. We really appreciate your feedback!

*** CHANGES IN THE PAST 4-5 WEEKS ***

1. GOOGLE’S LATEST “PENGUIN UPDATE” TARGETS SPAMMY AND OVER-OPTIMIZED SITES

2. GOOGLE’S RICH SNIPPET TESTING TOOL UPDATED – PRODUCT SNIPPETS PUSHED GLOBALLY

3. GOOGLE ANALYTICS NOW SHOWS SOCIAL NETWORKING DATA

4. GOOGLE INTRODUCING “ACCOUNT ACTIVITY” TO YOUR GOOGLE ACCOUNT

5. VIDEO SEARCH RESULTS UPDATED BY BING4

6. PAGINATION META TAGS NOW RECOMMENDED BY BING AS WELL

7. GOOGLE PLUS UPDATES ITS LAYOUT PLUS ADDS NEW FEATURES

8. FACEBOOK ROLLS OUT “FACEBOOK OFFERS”

Lessons Learned:

Have you noticed changes in your client’s site rankings since April 24th? If so, perhaps those sites have gotten pecked by Google’s latest algorithm “Penguin update”. It was a change to Google’s search results that was designed to punish pages that have been spamming Google.

Here are few of the best practices which we always follow (and which Google also recommends) to protect your site’s rankings against such updates:

• We don’t use spun content – either on the website or for article syndication. We make sure that the content is 100% unique. For article syndication, each article is submitted to one site to avoid duplication.

• We always stay away from creating spam content and avoid stuffing keywords. We make sure to limit the “keyword density” to 3% to 5% which is widely recommended.

• We never recommend Non-Search Engine friendly redirects and cloaking.

• We do not involve your site in questionable linking schemes including cross-domain linking, links from low quality sites, links from spun articles, etc.

• Excessive on-page optimization is something that we have always stayed away from. We make sure to optimize page titles, Meta tags and content in a search engine friendly way.

• We are already integrating social sharing elements such as Google+, Twitter & Facebook on all websites. So With social signals such as +1’s and shares from Google+, Google can easily keep a check on the spam websites, as the possibility of one sharing them (spam site) socially is low.

For more detail information about this update, please check out our May 2012 newsletter.

Hypotheses:
• As done in the past, Google did role out multiple versions of Panda from 2.0 to 3.6. We, too are expecting multiple versions of Google’s latest algorithm “Penguin update” to strike in future to improve the search results & fight spam.

************ UPCOMING SEARCH ENGINE CHANGES NEWS***********

• Recently, Google did 53 search quality changes that affect search results. Here are the highlightshttp://insidesearch.blogspot.com/2012/05/search-quality-highlights-53-changes.html
We will cover above updates; give recovery tips & advice for Google’s latest algorithm “Penguin update” in our next edition of Newsletter.
Again, thank you so much for your support and feedback. We truly value and appreciate you as our customer. We are always interested in hearing what you think, and getting your feedback and input.
We really appreciate your feedback!

Webmarketing123, a California online marketing agency, compiled the 2011 State of Digital Marketing Report. This report surveyed over 500 online marketers in the United States during the months of August and September 2011. The majority of survey participants identified themselves as business-to-business marketing organizations.

Regardless of whether a company identifies themselves as a business-to-business marketer or a business-to-customer marketing organization, almost all marketing specialists agree that SEO is the most effective method of generating leads and has the largest impact on lead generation. 57% of business-to-business marketing specialists identify SEO as the main method of lead generation. 41% of business-to-customer marketing specialists echo B2B marketer feelings regarding SEO and lead generation.

Website traffic, which is impacted by SEO efforts, are the best source of business leads, say both business-to-business and business-to-customer marketing specialists. And website traffic is the main way in which SEO success is measured. For both types of marketers, brand awareness by customers was the lowest measure of SEO success.

Regarding budgets, the Digital Marketing Report asked respondents several questions. One of the questions was about where budget funds are allocated in marketing. One-third of B2B marketers responded that the majority of their budget goes toward SEO efforts. However, for B2C marketers, in excess of 42 percent dedicate their budgets toward PPC efforts. This is in sharp contrast to B2B marketers, who place a strong emphasis on SEO for their budgets.

While SEO continues to be of importance, social media marketing is also getting a significant boost. 60% of all responders in the Digital Marketing Report indicate that they have plans to dedicate more money in their budgets toward social media marketing. 53% of responders indicate that they will place more emphasis on SEO and increase their budgets for this activity and only 40% indicate that they will dedicate more funds for PPC efforts.

One of the considerations to account for the marked increase in social media marketing budgets in the future is lead generation from social media outlets. Survey responders indicate that they have received significant lead generation from social media outlets such as Facebook, LinkedIn or Twitter. 68% of responders indicate they have received leads from these sources. Additionally, 55% of survey responders indicate that they have used social media outlets to close business deals.

The impact of social media cannot be ignore. However, with website traffic as the primary source of lead generation for marketers, SEO continues to be important to both large and small businesses.
